Jason Kidd's First Stint with the Dallas Mavericks

A Look Back at Kidd's Early Years in Dallas

Jason Kidd entered the 1994 NBA draft as one of the most coveted players in a draft class that included Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, and Glenn Robinson. The Dallas Mavericks selected Kidd with the second overall pick, and he quickly became a key player for the team.

Kidd's Early Success in Dallas

Kidd was a natural point guard with excellent court vision and passing skills. He was also a good scorer and rebounder, and he quickly became one of the most popular players in Dallas. In his first season with the Mavericks, Kidd averaged 11.7 points, 7.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, and he helped the Mavericks reach the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Kidd's Continued Success in Dallas

Kidd continued to improve in his second season with the Mavericks, averaging 16.6 points, 9.3 assists, and 6.8 rebounds per game. He was named to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time, and he helped the Mavericks reach the second round of the playoffs. In the 1996-97 season, Kidd averaged 18.9 points, 9.7 assists, and 7.4 rebounds per game. He was named to the NBA All-Star Game again, and he helped the Mavericks reach the Western Conference Finals.

Kidd's Departure from Dallas

After the 1996-97 season, Kidd was traded to the Phoenix Suns in a deal that brought Steve Nash to Dallas. Kidd spent the next eight seasons in Phoenix, where he continued to be one of the best point guards in the NBA. He was named to the NBA All-Star Game six times, and he helped the Suns reach the Western Conference Finals twice.

Kidd returned to the Mavericks in 2008, and he helped the team win the NBA championship in 2011. He retired from the NBA in 2013, and he is now the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
